Google PhD Fellowship Program

Google PhD Fellowships directly support graduate students as they pursue their PhD, as well as connect them to a Google Research Mentor.

Nurturing and maintaining strong relations with the academic community is a top priority at Google. The Google PhD Fellowship Program was created to recognize outstanding graduate students doing exceptional work in computer science and related research areas. We currently offer Fellowships in Australia, China and East Asia, Europe, the Middle East and Africa, India, the United States and Canada.

How to apply

The details of each Fellowship vary by region. Please see our FAQ for eligibility requirements and application instructions.

 

Australia, China and East Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and North America

In Australia, China and East Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and North America, students must be nominated by an eligible university. Nomination instructions are sent to eligible universities and submissions must be provided directly by an official representative of the university. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Invitations for the 2019 PhD Fellowship Program in North America, Europe and the Middle East will be delivered in November 2018. Awards for 2018 are now closed.

Invitations for the 2019 PhD Fellowship Program in China/Hong Kong/Japan/South Korea will be delivered in April 2019. And the application window will be closed on 11:59:59PM CST May 31, 2019.

Invitations for the 2019 PhD Fellowship Program in Australia will be delivered in March 2019 and awardees will be notified by June 2019.

 

Africa and India

In India and Africa, students may apply directly during the application period, which opens each February in India and each November in Africa. Applications are open to students in Computer Science and related areas from any Indian or African university. Please see our FAQ for more information.

The Google India PhD Fellowship program application window is closed as of 11:59:59 PM IST on Friday, 13th April 2018.

The Google Africa PhD Fellowship program application window for 2018 is closed as of 11:59pm GMT on Friday 19th January 2018.
